Meet the Owner

reGina Sides Rn, Mba Owner/manager

I am a native Tulsan. I graduated from Nathan Hale High School, then went to work at Cities Service Oil Company for 13 years. While at the oil company I worked primarily for attorneys and accountants. Following Cities Service, I went to nursing school at Tulsa Junior College. I obtained my RN in 1993 and have worked as an RN ever since. My experience has primarily been in inpatient rehab, brain injury, and with dementia patients, mostly neurological. I’ve been in management within the hospital setting, skilled nursing, long-term care, and currently as an RN Case Manager in a clinic. I previously had the opportunity of starting a state-of-the-art memory care center, as well as later helping open a brain injury hospital, which included starting a small-scale pharmacy and emergency room. During my nursing career I have obtained my MBA, in order to pursue this business venture. I have 3 daughters and sons-in-laws, who have blessed me with 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. I spend most of my time off with them. My hobbies include writing poetry and playing the piano. I also volunteer working at my church on Sunday mornings, teaching 1st-4th graders.

Where it all began

The idea for Assisted Air Travel derived from my many years of experience, working in the medical field as a nurse. Having witnessed multiple patients in need of assistance with transportation on and off commercial airlines and the difficulties they and their families endured, made me realize the need for these services.

Now, with the help of my amazing three daughters, we have created a family run business committed to assisting medically stable individuals with achieving their travel goals and needs.

  • Gene graduated from Sapulpa High School class of 1969, then attended NEOSU in Tahlequah, OK, working towards a business degree in Marketing and Management. During college he worked in sales and became assistant manager of C.R. Anthony’s. Another job in retail awaited after leaving school to become a buyer for Renberg’s Department Store, Tulsa. Years later they were bought out and the opportunity to buy into an existing night-club/restaurant presented itself as well as opening a new night-club/steak house in South Tulsa.

Having always loved airplanes, at age 14-1/2 Gene pulled one of several youthful teenaged bone head stunts…he swiped his Dad’s Cessna 170, taking it for a joy ride along with 3 of his best friends. It was one of the guy’s first time to fly. He liked it a lot, and he wound up becoming the Chief pilot of Airforce One during President Reagan’s term. Back to Gene… he became Owner/Operator of Wings Aviation Inc., located at Sand Springs Airport, teaching Ground School and Flight School. Wings also had aircraft sales, leasing and rentals. Gene was on the TTC School of Aviation as one of the Founding Board of Directors. He organized/directed the Spirit of Flight ’92 Air Show at William R. Pogue Airport. In the mid 90’s he became Vice-President of Operations and Sales for Western Valve and Equipment Inc., a multi-national company that builds valves and swivel joints. At age 41 he built GPI Inc., a mid-sized machine shop. Annual sales soon surpassed 1 million. He sold GPI 11 ½ years later, in 2009, four days before the economy tanked.

Since retirement he’s been escorting oversized trailer loads coast to coast and boarder to boarder on a part-time basis. With regards to Gina’s new start-up business, Gene has observed her great energy, drive and imaginative thinking outside the box; all traits required to be a successful business owner/operator. He offers any assistance or guidance to the best of his ability. Gene has been friends with Gina’s entire family since childhood days, growing up in Sapulpa, OK.
